Tiffany Graves has two degrees, three jobs and $48 in her bank account.
“They told us if we worked hard and stayed in school, we’d make it,” she said. “I did both. Where’s the dream?”
Across the country, stories like hers are rising. Middle-class Americans are now paycheck-to-paycheck survivors. Despite being employed, many can’t afford rent, groceries, or health insurance.
A recent Pew Research report shows over 62% of Americans now identify as “working broke.”
They have jobs. But no peace.
They’re housed. But not stable.
They’re awake but the dream is gone.
“It’s not the American Dream anymore,” said economist Dr. Laila Morton. “It’s the American Illusion. A system that rewards the top, drains the middle, and ignores the rest.”
Tiffany’s story struck a nerve online, with millions sharing her post: “I’m tired of surviving success.”
