In a powerful address that’s gone viral across social media, author and civil rights icon Dr. Cornel West delivered a sobering message to Americans divided by race and politics:
“Whether you’re white or Black in America it’s better you take the race off your head and let’s come together to build our land. If not, we’re all gonna lose it together. The main problem we’re having now is Trump.”
Dr. West, who has long warned of what he calls America’s “spiritual and moral decay,” did not mince words during a town hall in Detroit. His comments come as the country continues to spiral into political chaos, economic inequality, and cultural division all while former president Donald Trump gears up for what many fear will be his most polarizing campaign yet.
Dr. West emphasized that America’s core crisis isn’t racial identity, but moral direction. He warned that politicians are using race and fear to keep people distracted while the real problems poverty, corruption, injustice go unchecked.
“We keep playing identity games while billionaires rob the country blind,” he said. “It’s not about skin color anymore. It’s about class, it’s about truth, it’s about power.”
West pointed squarely at Donald Trump as a key catalyst for today’s national division:
“Trump didn’t invent hate but he made it fashionable again. He made cruelty a political strategy. And if we don’t wake up now, we’ll lose the little democracy we’ve got left.”
The message has sparked both praise and backlash online, with many agreeing that race-baiting has become a distraction from deeper issues, while others accuse West of “oversimplifying” the lived realities of racism.
Still, his core warning remains clear:
“If we don’t stop fighting each other, we’re all going down together. The house is burning. It don’t matter what color you are inside it.”
With the 2026 elections looming and America more divided than ever, Dr. West’s words may be the urgent wake-up call the nation needs.
