In a futuristic twist on traditional sport, China hosted the world’s first robot boxing championship in Shanghai this week. Dubbed the “Iron AI Games,” the event drew global attention as humanoid robots sparred in a custom-built ring using advanced AI-powered decision systems.
Teams from Japan, South Korea, the U.S., and Germany participated, showcasing robotic speed, reflexes, and strategy never before seen in public matches. The Chinese-built champion, nicknamed “Dragon Fist,” defeated a Boston Dynamics entry in the final round.
The tournament aims to advance both entertainment robotics and military AI research. While some call it the future of sport, critics warn of the ethical implications of machines designed to fight.
Still, the crowd loved it. The finale drew over 30 million livestream viewers, and Beijing announced it will host a second edition in 2026.
