Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has sounded an urgent alarm over worsening security in the state, accusing unnamed Abuja-based politicians and some members of the National Assembly of actively sponsoring terror attacks in the region.
“Benue is under siege. Terrorists are eating up our communities, and the silence from some quarters is a betrayal of the people,” Governor Alia said during a security briefing on Friday.
The governor’s emotional address follows a recent series of coordinated attacks in Guma, Logo, and Agatu LGAs, where dozens of residents were killed, and hundreds displaced.

He called on the federal government to investigate the sources of funding and arms supply to these groups, adding that “power-hungry elements” were using violence to destabilize the state.
Federal Government Response Pending
So far, the Presidency and the Department of State Services (DSS) have not issued a formal response to the allegations. However, civil society groups are calling for an immediate probe into Governor Alia’s claims.
Residents have staged protests in Makurdi and Gboko, demanding swift action and permanent deployment of security forces to the rural communities.
