In what appears to be the most unexpected political twist of the year, former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi reportedly held a closed-door midnight meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja a development that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape.
Highly placed sources within Aso Rock confirmed to Dobblog that the meeting, which took place between 11:40 PM on Thursday and 1:20 AM Friday morning, was facilitated discreetly by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who has long been regarded as a behind-the-scenes stabilizer in Nigerian politics.

According to insiders, the meeting was not scheduled on the President’s official calendar and was deliberately kept off the media radar.
“We were surprised to see Peter Obi arrive in a black Toyota SUV with two aides. He was ushered into the President’s private wing,” said a senior security official at the Villa who asked to remain anonymous.
What Was Discussed?
Although official statements from both camps remain unavailable as of press time, an insider with direct knowledge of the meeting claims three major issues dominated the agenda:
1. National Unity & Post-Election Tensions:
The President reportedly invited Obi to discuss possible avenues to calm rising political divisions and address recent nationwide protests against economic hardship.
2. 2027 Power-Sharing Arrangement:
Discussions allegedly included a potential national unity government or “consensus restructuring committee” ahead of the 2027 elections a proposal reportedly being supported by some northern governors.
3. Obi’s Growing Popularity:
Tinubu was said to have expressed concern about Peter Obi’s rising influence among the youth and middle class, urging for a “collaborative future” rather than opposition politics.
A political analyst, Dr. Tunde Aremu of the University of Abuja, described the development as “deeply symbolic, if true.”

“Peter Obi and Tinubu have been painted as ideological opposites, but politics is about interest. If this meeting happened, it could mark the beginning of a grand alliance or at least political realignment,” Dr. Aremu told Dobblog.
Labour Party Reacts
The Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, denied knowledge of any such meeting, stating:
“Our principal has not informed the party of any such engagement. Until we receive official communication, we cannot comment on speculations.”
However, a source close to Obi’s personal aide, Valentine Obienyem, hinted that “discussions of national interest are not unusual for a statesman like Mr. Obi.”
A New Political Chapter?
As social media erupts with speculation and Nigerians await official clarification, this development could change the tone of Nigerian politics in the months ahead.
