Amazon is accelerating plans to roll out its controversial “pay-by-palm” biometric system to stores across the U.S. by Thanksgiving, according to leaked internal documents obtained by TechGuardian.
The system, called Amazon One, allows users to link their palm signature to a payment method and simply hover their hand over a scanner to check out.
Amazon says it’s about speed and convenience. But critics are warning of a dangerous new precedent in biometric tracking.

“Your palm is not a password you can change,” said digital rights advocate Rosa Kim. “If this data is ever breached or misused, the consequences are permanent.”
Despite backlash, Amazon says sign-ups have doubled in the last six months.
The nationwide launch is expected to include Whole Foods, Amazon Go, and several third-party partners.
