U.S. President Donald Trump has launched the most aggressive immigration enforcement effort in over a decade, following a landmark Supreme Court decision that supported revoking legal status for over half a million migrants.
Under the new orders, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been tasked with detaining up to 3,000 undocumented individuals per day. The plan includes expanded visa screenings and the suspension of student visa interviews in several consulates worldwide. The administration claims the measures are necessary to restore “national integrity” and to combat what Trump called the “unchecked border crisis.”
Critics have blasted the plan as extreme and unconstitutional. The American Civil Liberties Union has already filed multiple lawsuits, citing civil rights violations and racial profiling. Meanwhile, advocacy groups say communities across Texas, Arizona, and Florida are already seeing increased ICE presence and unannounced raids.
While Trump supporters have praised the move as decisive leadership, Democratic lawmakers have accused the former president of stoking fear ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Tensions are expected to escalate as the immigration directive is enforced in the coming weeks
