Police Oppose IPOB’s Biafran Day Lockdown

The Nigerian Police Force has expressed strong opposition to the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) planned sit-at-home order for May 30, which is intended to commemorate Biafra heroes.

In a public statement, police officials warned that such enforced lockdowns could lead to unnecessary disturbances, economic losses, and compromise the safety of citizens. They reiterated that no group has the authority to order a shutdown of public life in any part of Nigeria.

The Police Force urged the public to continue with their daily activities without fear and assured them of heightened security measures to prevent any violent incidents during the period.

This opposition by security forces highlights the tension between IPOB and the federal government, as the group pushes for greater recognition of Biafra history and autonomy.

Community leaders have called for dialogue and peaceful coexistence, urging all parties to respect Nigeria’s unity while allowing space for cultural remembrance.

The police have promised to remain vigilant and take necessary action against anyone who attempts to enforce the lockdown through intimidation or violence.
