MC Oluomo Warns Tafa Sego: Don’t Bring War to Lagos - NURTW Crisis Deepens

Tension is rising within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos as former chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has publicly called on the current state chairman, Mustapha Adekunle Adio a.k.a. Tafa Sego, to tread carefully and avoid plunging the state into violence.

The warning comes amid growing friction between rival factions within the union, especially after reports surfaced of an alleged assassination attempt on Tafa Sego’s life in Surulere. Armed men reportedly invaded his home, tied up his security guard, and searched the premises for him. Fortunately, Sego was not present at the time.

MC Oluomo Speaks Out

In a firm but measured message, MC Oluomo advised Sego and his loyalists not to escalate tensions or turn Lagos into a battlefield. “This is Lagos. We built this structure with sweat and patience. We don’t want war,” MC Oluomo said in a statement made through his close associates.

Though he refrained from directly accusing Sego of inciting violence, Oluomo’s comments come on the heels of rumors that the current leadership may be planning moves that could disrupt the existing balance within the Lagos NURTW.

Insiders say the recent wave of tension may be tied to unresolved issues between the two powerful transport leaders. While MC Oluomo once handed over the reins to Tafa Sego, sources claim he has grown uneasy with Sego’s style of leadership and the growing disconnect between union branches.

Supporters of Oluomo argue that Lagos NURTW thrived under his tenure due to structured leadership and strong alliances, and they fear that the union may be heading into crisis under its current path.

Some union members have taken to social media to express concern over the rising tension. One member, who chose to remain anonymous, said, “We just want peace. We don’t want to go back to the days of bloodshed and revenge attacks. The union should focus on transport, not power fights.”

Lagos residents and stakeholders are urging both parties to prioritize peace and unity, warning that any breakdown of order within the NURTW could have ripple effects across the state, especially in transport operations and market areas.

As investigations continue into the reported attack on Sego’s residence, security agencies are closely monitoring the situation. Meanwhile, Lagosians watch with caution as two of the state’s most influential transport leaders clash in what could be the beginning of another storm within the NURTW.
