A shocking security breach has rocked the Orleans Parish jail after a maintenance worker was arrested and charged with aiding in the escape of 10 inmates last week, authorities confirmed Monday.
The unnamed employee allegedly provided tools, access, and information that enabled the group of inmates to slip past security and vanish into the city in what officials are calling a “coordinated and brazen breakout.”
According to investigators, the inmates exploited a maintenance corridor and manipulated security systems, all with assistance from the worker who had been with the facility for less than a year. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the escapees leaving their cells undetected over a period of hours.

“This was an inside job no doubt,” said Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson. “We are treating this as a serious breach of trust and public safety.”
While seven of the escapees have since been recaptured, a city-wide manhunt continues for the remaining three. Law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The arrested employee is now facing multiple felony charges, including aiding escape, tampering with government property, and obstruction of justice.
Officials are also reviewing jail protocols and have launched a full internal audit to identify potential security lapses and other staff vulnerabilities.
The Orleans Parish jail has faced criticism in the past for poor conditions and oversight, and this latest scandal may intensify calls for broader reform within the system.
