In a surprising yet thought-provoking statement, former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has advised Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, to “don’t follow your father’s steps, build your own legacy.”
Atiku, who has been in the political scene for decades, made the comments in a public interview while discussing the political future of the younger Tinubu, who has garnered attention for his rising political profile ahead of the 2027 Presidential elections.
In a direct call for political independence, Atiku encouraged Seyi to forge his own path rather than simply riding on his father’s coattails. He added that Nigeria needed fresh leadership that could break away from the old political structures and build something new for the future.

“The country’s progress depends on the next generation learning from the past but carving their own path. Seyi should not simply follow in his father’s footsteps. He has the potential to build his own legacy that will be remembered for the right reasons.”
Atiku’s comments come at a time when the younger Tinubu is making headlines for his political activities and involvement in youth-oriented movements. However, the question remains: Will Seyi Tinubu follow his father’s political playbook, or will he take a new approach to leadership?
