Guanajuato, Mexico Tragedy struck a quiet Catholic youth gathering on Sunday as gunmen opened fire, killing seven young people and injuring several others in Mexico’s violence-ridden Guanajuato state.
According to local authorities, the attack took place during a religious event organized by a Catholic church in the town of Salvatierra, an area increasingly plagued by drug cartel violence. Witnesses described the chaos as masked gunmen stormed the venue, opening fire without warning.
“They were just kids… praying, singing. It was a church activity,” one community member told reporters in shock.
Authorities have launched a full investigation but believe the massacre is connected to ongoing turf wars between powerful criminal groups in the region. Guanajuato has become one of Mexico’s most dangerous states in recent years due to escalating conflicts between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel.

Church leaders condemned the attack as “a crime against humanity and God,” calling for justice and peace.
No arrests have been made yet, and military patrols have since been increased across surrounding towns.
This attack adds to the growing number of civilian casualties caught in the crossfire of Mexico’s cartel-fueled violence, with dozens of innocent lives lost in similar incidents this year alone.
