Nigerian activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has once again stirred political tension after doubling down on his earlier claim that a secret government memo exists warning against the possibility of an Igbo presidency.
Originally revealed in April, Sowore’s comments resurfaced this week during a live town hall event in Lagos, where he addressed the marginalization of Southeast leaders in national politics. He reiterated that, according to the document he claimed to have seen, powerful forces within the Nigerian establishment have actively worked to block any serious presidential bid from the region.
Although no official document has been released to the public, Sowore’s remarks have been met with both condemnation and support. Several youth groups and political commentators from the Southeast have demanded an investigation into the matter, while ruling party spokespeople dismissed the statement as “divisive and unsubstantiated.”
With the 2027 general election drawing closer, calls for power rotation to the Southeast are growing louder, and Sowore’s claims could further energize political movements in the region.
