In a fiery rebuke that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political space, Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for embarking on a retreat in France while the nation battles a relentless wave of insecurity.
Obi, speaking through a strongly worded statement on Tuesday morning, called the President’s overseas gathering “tone-deaf and insulting” to the thousands of Nigerian families mourning loved ones lost to banditry, terrorism, and violent attacks in recent weeks.
“How can a leader be comfortable in a French retreat when his own country is bleeding?” Obi questioned. “Nigerians are being slaughtered in their homes, schools, and on the highways. Every drop of blood shed is a stain on the conscience of leadership.”

The former Anambra governor accused the Tinubu administration of spending billions on foreign engagements while security agencies remain underfunded and overstretched at home. He urged the President to cancel the France event immediately and return to address the deepening national crisis.
“All hands should be on deck. There is no time for luxury. The Nigerian people deserve presence, not absence solutions, not selfies,” Obi said.
