Akwa Ibom Sets New Standard as Nigeria’s Cleanest City

In a quiet but powerful transformation, Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, is steadily emerging as the cleanest city in Nigeria without fanfare, hashtags, or headlines.

Over the past year, a silent revolution has taken place: streets swept before sunrise, public drains cleared regularly, and new waste bins installed across neighborhoods.

Local residents say it’s not just the government’s effort it’s the people’s pride. “We don’t wait for environmental officers,” says Blessing Etim, a shop owner in Ewet Housing. “We clean in front of our shops because it’s our home.” Unlike other states where cleanup days are often ignored,

Akwa Ibom’s monthly environmental sanitation is strictly observed, and the results are clear. From Itam to Shelter Afrique, the difference is visible and refreshing. It’s not a campaign. It’s a culture.
