As Nigeria’s 2027 elections draw closer, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid a visit to Kano State this weekend, sparking fresh speculation about political alignments ahead of the next polls.
Tinubu, who arrived at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport to a rousing welcome from supporters chanting “Tinubu, you are our President,” was received by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. His visit was part of a condolence tour to honor prominent Kano figures who recently passed away.
The President first visited the family of the late Sheikh Ahmad Ibrahim Bomba near BUK Old Site to offer his condolences. He also stopped at the home of late Alhaji Bashir Tofa, the former presidential candidate renowned for his role in Nigeria’s 1993 election.
Speaking during the visit, Tinubu praised Tofa’s legacy, describing him as a “gentleman politician” who “showed humility and love for peace by accepting the results of the 1993 election against MKO Abiola.” He called on Nigerian politicians to emulate such spirit as the country approaches another critical election season.
Tinubu also visited the family of the late Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad, former National President of the Council of Sharia, offering prayers for his soul and acknowledging his contributions to national development.
