Elon Musk Quietly Shelves Third Party Plans - May Back J.D. Vance in 2028

Elon Musk’s dream of launching his own political party may already be on ice.

According to a bombshell report from The Wall Street Journal, Musk has postponed his plans to create the “America Party” a third-party movement he once teased as a way to shake up U.S. politics. The reason? He doesn’t want to risk damaging his growing ties with influential Republicans, especially Vice President J.D. Vance.

Instead, Musk is reportedly considering throwing his weight and his money behind Vance’s potential 2028 presidential run. Sources told WSJ that Musk has floated the idea of financially supporting Vance if he decides to run once Trump’s term ends.

The move is a sharp turn from Musk’s earlier anti-establishment tone. By pausing his third-party ambitions, the Tesla and SpaceX boss is signaling that he wants to be an insider, not an outsider at least for now.

Political insiders say Musk’s calculation is simple: forming a third party now could split the conservative vote, hurt Republican chances in 2028, and alienate allies like Vance. By shelving it, Musk keeps the door open both to influence the GOP and, possibly, to revive his America Party later.

For now, the world’s richest man seems to be betting on J.D. Vance as the future of the Republican Party. Whether that alliance lasts through 2028 is anyone’s guess but one thing’s for sure: Musk is once again positioning himself at the center of America’s political storm.

Musk isn’t walking away from politics he’s just changing the playbook. The America Party is on hold, and J.D. Vance might just have the world’s richest backer in his corner.
