Mrs. Camille Hayes never thought reading a book could cost her everything. The 6th-grade teacher from Missouri read The Hate U Give in class, hoping to teach her students about race and justice. Instead, she was suspended.
Parents protested. School board meetings turned violent. They called her “radical,” “dangerous,” and even “unfit to teach.”

But then Camille did something unexpected She quit. And started a free online school for low-income kids.
Now, she’s teaching thousands across the U.S. and being called “the Rosa Parks of education” by fans online.
