Frustration is mounting inside the House Republican leadership as one senior member is openly voicing impatience with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for failing to lock down a final deal on the massive budget bill still awaiting Donald Trump’s approval.
With the clock ticking and pressure building, the unnamed GOP leader expressed concern that Johnson is wasting precious time trying to appease all corners of his divided caucus instead of closing ranks and delivering the legislative win Trump is counting on.
“We’re spinning in circles while the country watches,” the source said. “We need leadership not endless negotiations.”
The budget bill, which has already drawn fire from both fiscal hawks and moderates, remains a key piece of Trump’s post-election platform as he eyes a second term and pushes for drastic federal cuts. But the longer Johnson delays consensus among House Republicans, the greater the risk that the bill unravels before reaching Trump’s desk.
Behind the scenes, tensions are said to be rising, with some GOP lawmakers urging Johnson to either finalize the bill or move on warning that prolonged infighting could weaken their party’s image heading into the fall.
As of now, the path forward remains murky. Johnson faces growing pressure from both Trump’s orbit and his own allies to act swiftly and decisively. Whether he can deliver remains the question.
