A small-town pastor thought he was standing his ground until the whole town turned on him. Pastor Daniel Graves refused to marry a same-sex couple at his church in rural Kentucky, citing “biblical beliefs.”
But what followed wasn’t applause it was outrage. Members began resigning. Local businesses canceled church partnerships. And then, in an unexpected twist, the church elders voted to remove him from his position. “This is not the church I built,” Graves said, in tears.

But others saw it differently: “You can’t preach love and practice hate.” Now, the pastor says he’s considering leaving ministry altogether a symbol of how the culture war is hitting even the quietest corners of America.
