Instead of fireworks, chants filled the air this Independence Day. Across the country, thousands took to the streets under the banner of “Free America Weekend,” demanding an end to Trump’s aggressive immigration policies, tax favoritism, and what they call a return to “kingship.”
From Washington D.C. to San Francisco, protestors waved signs saying “We Don’t Celebrate Injustice” and “Independence Means Equality.” The Women’s March, along with student and labor groups, led the charge. At Mar-a-Lago, the infamous baby Trump balloon floated again reminding Americans that protest is, itself, patriotic.
While millions barbecued, millions more took a stand. This year, July 4 wasn’t just a celebration it was a statement.
