Zambia is in mourning following the death of former President Edgar Lungu, who passed away at the age of 68 in a South African hospital after a brief illness. Lungu served as president from 2015 to 2021 and played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s modern political era.
Despite a rocky tenure marked by economic challenges and accusations of authoritarianism, Lungu remained a significant political figure. Earlier this year, he attempted a political comeback that was thwarted by a constitutional court ruling.

Flags across the country are flying at half-staff, and a state funeral is being planned m for next week in Lusaka.
