American and Chinese diplomats began high-stakes negotiations in London today, seeking to ease growing trade tensions that have shaken global markets for months.
The meetings, led by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and China’s Commerce Minister He Lifeng, follow a 90-day “cool-off” period agreed upon in March. Topics on the table include tariff reductions, intellectual property disputes, and digital commerce restrictions.
Investors around the world are watching closely. With both economies under pressure and inflation lingering there’s hope that an agreement can stabilize international markets and avoid a deeper recession.
“This is the most important trade summit since 2018,” said economist David Li. “The stakes couldn’t be higher.”
