Trump’s Two Week Pause on Iran Is a Risky Bet That Could Backfire

It feels like the world is holding its breath and Donald Trump is the one keeping it waiting.

After pushing the United States dangerously close to military confrontation with Iran, Trump has suddenly hit the brakes, announcing a two week pause before making any major moves. But this isn’t just a delay it’s a gamble.

Sources close to the White House say Trump is torn. On one side, pressure is mounting from his own advisers, Israel, and hawkish allies urging swift action. On the other, Trump remains deeply hesitant about dragging the U.S. into another Middle East war especially during an election cycle.

Behind the scenes, there’s little progress. Negotiations with Iran are stalled. There’s no nuclear deal in sight. Iran is still enriching uranium beyond limits, while Israeli strikes continue to raise the temperature. Trump’s pause, in theory, gives diplomacy one last chance but critics argue it may be too little, too late.

He’s trying to avoid a war he helped create, one senior diplomat said. But a pause without a plan is just standing in the middle of traffic.

Now the world waits. Two weeks may not sound like much but in a region already on edge, it could be the longest and most dangerous countdown yet.
