Newly inaugurated South Korean President Lee Jae-myung delivered a sobering message to the nation and the world, warning that global trade instability poses a direct threat to South Korea’s future.
In his first speech as president, Lee described an international landscape where supply chains are breaking down, protectionist policies are rising, and middle powers like South Korea are caught in the crossfire.

“We face a world where strategic alliances matter more than ever,” Lee said. “Our survival now depends on innovation, diplomacy, and unwavering economic cooperation.”
He promised to strengthen ties with the United States and Japan while engaging China in cautious diplomacy. Analysts say Lee’s administration will mark a shift toward greater self-reliance in defense and trade, even as North Korea continues its missile provocations.
