The pressure is rising this time from within. Senator Ron Wyden is going straight after former President Donald Trump’s Treasury pick, Scott Bessent, demanding to know why the U.S. isn’t hitting Russia harder with sanctions.
In a direct letter, Wyden warned of “dangerous delays” in tracking Russian assets and stopping financial flows connected to Putin’s war machine. The criticism comes as Trump edges closer to reclaiming the White House and signals a foreign policy many fear could go soft on Moscow.

Though Trump has long claimed he was “tough on Russia,” this latest friction raises fresh questions about how serious his camp is about accountability especially as reports show sanctioned Russian billionaires still moving money freely.
So far, no strong response from Trump’s side. But with the Ukraine war still raging and Congress watching closely, one thing is clear: the next administration whoever leads it won’t be able to avoid these questions much longer.
