A quiet Thursday morning in Eastleigh turned into a scene of chaos and fear after a double decker bus carrying students veered off the road and crashed into a river, injuring multiple people.
The incident happened around 10:07 a.m. near Bishopstoke, Hampshire. The bus was transporting students from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College when it suddenly left the roadway and plunged into the water below.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in force with five ambulances, two helicopters, and multiple fire and rescue units responding. The bus was quickly surrounded by first responders working urgently to evacuate and treat those onboard.

According to South Central Ambulance Service, three patients were taken to hospital as high-priority cases, while 14 others were treated at the scene for less serious injuries. Thankfully, everyone on the bus was accounted for.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said fire crews from Eastleigh, St Mary’s, Redbridge, Hightown, and Portchester assisted in the rescue operation.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the incident has shaken the local community especially parents and students of Barton Peveril College.
“I’ve never been so scared,” one witness said. “I saw the helicopters and flashing lights, and I just thought the worst.”
Police have not yet confirmed the identities of the injured, but families are being contacted and support is being offered to students and staff affected by the crash.
As the community prays for the recovery of the injured, questions now turn to how such a serious accident could happen on a regular school route and whether it could have been prevented.
