Los Angeles descended into chaos this weekend as violent protests broke out in response to a sweeping ICE immigration raid that targeted dozens of families across the city. Federal authorities responded by deploying nearly 300 National Guard troops late Sunday night in a bid to restore order.
The unrest began after videos circulated online showing immigration agents detaining individuals outside churches, schools, and community centers. Protesters took to the streets, blocking major intersections and clashing with LAPD officers. Fires were set, windows smashed, and a government vehicle torched downtown. Officials declared an unlawful assembly in the downtown area.
City leaders have called for calm while demanding answers from federal authorities. “We’re a sanctuary city,” said Mayor Carla Villanueva. “This kind of operation tears at the very fabric of trust between our communities and law enforcement.”
