Nobody expected it and even fewer believe it’s real. A dim, grainy image leaked online early this morning claims to show a tunnel entrance in southern Gaza, leading underground to what appears to be the outer perimeter of a U.S. forward operating base in the region. The tunnel is crudely built stone lined, steel reinforced, but unmistakably man made.
U.S. military sources are denying the existence of any such structure, calling it a fabrication. But Israeli defense analysts say it matches intel they’ve been sitting on for months that unknown groups in Gaza may be creating long distance underground corridors that connect to Western strongholds.
Why? Smuggling? Sabotage? Or something more coordinated? No one knows for sure. But if this image is real, it could mean the battlefield is deeper and far more complicated than anyone realized.
