Flames ripped through the home in under 12 minutes. Neighbors screamed. Firefighters told him not to go back inside. But Mark Lansing didn’t listen because inside that burning house was something more valuable than any object: the truth.
He ran back in once. Then twice. On the third run, he found it a small silver flash drive hidden behind his refrigerator.
When firefighters pulled him out, coughing and burned, they asked what he risked his life for.
His answer?
“It has proof. They’ll kill me if I lose it.”
Lansing, a former aide for two U.S. senators, claims the drive contains whistleblower recordings, financial statements, and encrypted emails that “tie sitting politicians to foreign contracts and bribes.”
The fire is now under investigation. Officials say the cause is “unclear.” Lansing says it wasn’t an accident.
He’s in protective custody now and the contents of that flash drive may soon reach the public. But he’s made one thing clear: “If I die, release it all.”
