Governor Umo Eno Dumps PDP for APC in Dramatic Political Shift

In a major political realignment, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State on Friday officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking waves across the national political landscape.

The defection, announced at a well-attended event in Uyo, saw top APC stalwarts including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje present to receive the governor into the ruling party.

“I have chosen to align with a party that shares my vision for Akwa Ibom and Nigeria. My decision is rooted in the need for deeper collaboration and effective governance,” Governor Eno said.

The defection was not without consequences. Hours after the announcement, Ini Ememobong, the State Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port, tendered his resignation, citing “a shift in principles and political direction.”

The PDP, in a swift response, accused the governor of betrayal and self-interest. A statement from the PDP’s national secretariat said, “Governor Eno has turned his back on the platform that made him. We will not forget this act of political opportunism.”

Political analysts say the move could shift the balance of power in the South-South, a region long dominated by the PDP.
