Leaders from the world’s most powerful economies gathered today in Kananaskis, Alberta to mark the 50th anniversary of the G7. But celebrations were quickly overshadowed by urgent issues: Ukraine, inflation, climate change, and trade wars.
President Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and others will spend the week crafting responses to the Russia Ukraine war, global economic instability, and energy shocks.
A key topic will be whether the G7 will push for a coordinated cap on Russian energy exports or risk global fuel prices spiking further.
“This isn’t just a photo-op summit,” said one EU diplomat. “This is about global survival.”
