If it felt unusually hot last month, you’re not imagining it. According to the EU’s Copernicus Climate Service, May 2025 was the second-warmest May ever recorded globally, with Europe experiencing extreme heat and early drought alerts.
Countries like the UK, Ukraine, Türkiye, and Russia are already reporting dried-up rivers, wildfires, and serious water shortages heading into summer.
“We’re watching an ecological time bomb ticking,” warned a senior climatologist.
In response, governments are scrambling to roll out water restrictions and emergency funding for farmers. Climate activists are calling it another clear sign that the time for climate action “was yesterday.”
