Eyewitnesses describe scenes of panic and confusion as barriers collapsed and crowds surged forward. “People were climbing over each other, falling down, and screaming. It was terrifying,” said Rakesh Verma, a survivor.
Emergency services were overwhelmed, with ambulances taking over an hour to reach some of the injured. The Karnataka state government has ordered an investigation and announced compensation for the victims’ families.
