According to a new report from Bloomberg News, Apple executives have quietly held internal discussions about potentially acquiring Perplexity a fast rising artificial intelligence startup that’s been making waves in the search and chatbot space. While talks are still in the early stages and no official offer has been made, the mere possibility signals how seriously Apple is taking the AI arms race.
Interestingly, Apple hasn’t reached out to Perplexity’s leadership yet, and the startup itself responded to media inquiries by saying it had “no knowledge of any current or future M&A discussions involving Perplexity.”
Still, in Silicon Valley, where silence often speaks volumes, industry watchers are taking notice.

Apple isn’t alone in showing interest. Meta reportedly tried to acquire Perplexity earlier this year, and just last week, Meta announced a massive $14.8 billion investment in Scale AI. In a bold move, Meta also hired Scale AI’s CEO Alexandr Wang to head its new superintelligence division a clear shot at dominating the next phase of AI evolution.
With OpenAI, Google, Meta, and now possibly Apple making big moves, the message is clear: the AI race is no longer just about building tools it’s about owning the future.
It looks like Apple might be the next giant jumping deeper into the AI game. And for startups like Perplexity, that future may be worth billions.
