In a historic move, the United States has officially reopened its embassy in Damascus, Syria, raising the American flag over the facility for the first time since its closure in 2012.
The reopening signals a significant diplomatic shift and comes as Syria attempts to rebuild from over a decade of civil war. A U.S. diplomatic delegation led a brief flag-raising ceremony attended by representatives from several international organizations.
State Department officials describe the reopening as part of a broader regional strategy to stabilize the Middle East and monitor growing Russian and Iranian influence in Syria.

This marks the first full diplomatic mission re-established by the U.S. in a post-conflict zone since Afghanistan.
