The British government has approved a 4% salary increase for public school teachers in England. The pay hike, recommended by independent review bodies, is part of a broader effort to keep public sector wages in line with inflation and private sector growth.
However, education unions warn the raise may not translate into real relief, as schools are expected to absorb much of the cost through “productivity improvements” and budget adjustments. Some headteachers fear this could lead to cutbacks in support staff or extracurricular programs.
The announcement comes as teachers across the UK continue to push for better work conditions, smaller class sizes, and more support staff in classrooms.
