In a bold and emotional declaration that has sparked reactions nationwide, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced that the 2027 election will be his last shot at the presidency.
“If I lose the 2027 election, I will stop running,” Obi said during a town hall meeting in Anambra State over the weekend. “This is not a game for me it’s a mission to rebuild Nigeria. But if the people reject me again, I will step aside and support whoever is ready to bring real change.”
Obi, who gained massive support from youths and professionals during the 2023 elections, has remained a key figure in Nigeria’s political landscape. Despite finishing third, many viewed his campaign as a political revolution and a wake-up call to the old guard.
His latest statement comes as speculation intensifies over his political strategy ahead of 2027. Supporters believe he remains the most credible alternative to President Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
But Obi’s words have now added emotional weight to the next election cycle, with many describing 2027 as his final stand.
“He’s saying it’s all or nothing and that’s powerful,” said political analyst Amaka Uche. “It’s either Nigerians rally behind him now, or he bows out for good.”
Social media erupted shortly after his remarks, with hashtags like #ObiLastChance and #FinalRun2027 trending across Nigeria.

Obi also used the occasion to call for peaceful campaigns, fair debates, and voter awareness. “I’m not desperate for power. I’m desperate for progress,” he told the cheering crowd.
As 2027 approaches, Peter Obi’s words may be remembered not just as a campaign promise but as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
