Lagos State has officially started the registration of residents for the National Identity Number (NIN) card as part of Nigeria’s ongoing effort to enhance security and streamline identity management.
The exercise, which began this week, is aimed at ensuring that every Nigerian has a verifiable identity, which can help reduce fraud, improve access to social services, and aid national planning.

Officials have set up multiple registration centers across Lagos to make the process as smooth as possible.
Residents are encouraged to participate fully and bring their required documents to avoid delays.
The government says having a robust national ID system is critical in today’s digital age, and Lagos, as Nigeria’s largest city, is leading by example.
