Top Nigerian Pastor Says True Change Will Come When Leaders Serve the People

A respected Nigerian pastor, Rev. Dr. Samuel Adeoye, has declared that the world and Nigeria in particular will only experience true transformation when bad governance is replaced by leaders who genuinely serve the people.

Speaking during a Friday night vigil at Dominion Life Assembly in Lagos, Rev. Adeoye emphasized that leadership is not about power or position, but about responsibility and sacrifice. “The world will change when we go out of bad government and move into the hands of people who do what they say,” the pastor told the large gathering, drawing loud applause from the audience.

The message, which has since gone viral on social media, has resonated deeply with many Nigerians who continue to call for transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance.

In a country where promises are often made and rarely kept, Rev. Adeoye’s words have struck a nerve particularly among young voters and first-time participants in Nigeria’s democratic process.

He urged citizens not to lose hope but to remain active in civic life, saying, “Change will not come by chance. It will come when we, the people, choose character over slogans, service over show.”

The pastor’s statement adds to growing public discourse around leadership in Nigeria, as the nation continues to navigate economic reform, political reshuffling, and calls for institutional accountability.

His message serves as a timely reminder that for any lasting change to take root, leadership must shift from self-interest to service and that begins with leaders who walk their talk.
