In a groundbreaking move to enhance urban security, Lagos State has introduced “Eagle Eye,” an AI-powered drone designed to assist law enforcement in real-time crime detection and prevention. The drone utilizes advanced facial recognition and predictive analytics to monitor high-crime areas, providing live feedback to police units.
During its pilot operation last weekend, “Eagle Eye” successfully identified and tracked a group of suspected burglars in the Lekki area, leading to their swift apprehension. Authorities report a 30% decrease in response time to incidents since the drone’s deployment.
Commissioner of Police, Adebayo Ogunleye, stated, “The integration of AI technology marks a new era in our fight against crime. ‘Eagle Eye’ serves as a force multiplier, enhancing our ability to protect citizens.”
Residents have expressed optimism about the new technology, hoping it will lead to safer neighborhoods. However, civil rights groups urge transparency and regulations to ensure privacy rights are respected.
