Man Shot at Mar-a-Lago After Breaching Secure Perimeter — Secret Service Stops Potential Threat

A man in his early 20s was shot and killed Sunday after breaching the secure perimeter at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, according to the Secret Service. Authorities confirmed that the man was armed with a shotgun and a gasoline canister when he approached the north gate of the property. Fortunately, no one inside the residence was in danger.

What Happened

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said deputies and Secret Service agents confronted the man, asking him to drop his weapons. “He put the gas can down and pointed the shotgun at the officers,” Bradshaw said. The man was then shot and killed at the scene.

Authorities are urging anyone in the area with surveillance footage from Saturday night or Sunday morning to come forward to assist in the investigation, according to FBI Miami Special Agent Brett Skiles.

The president and First Lady Melania Trump were in Washington, D.C., this weekend attending policy meetings with governors. Trump has no public events scheduled on Sunday. The quick action of law enforcement ensured no one at Mar-a-Lago was harmed.

• 2024: A man hid in bushes with a sniper rifle near the Trump golf course in West Palm Beach. He fled once Secret Service fired but was later arrested and found guilty of attempting to assassinate the former president.

• July 2024: Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, gained a clear line of sight to Trump during a rally and fired six rounds before officers shot him. Trump was grazed on the ear, one spectator was killed, and two were critically injured.

These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about security at properties where Trump resides or travels frequently.
