Nigerians are angry and heartbroken after 16 people lost their lives in only two weeks due to reckless truck accidents across the country. Many of the trucks involved, witnesses say, belong to the Dangote Group, owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.
From highways to city roads, big trucks are turning into moving killers. Drivers speed, brakes fail, and safety rules are ignored. Families are left to mourn loved ones who should still be alive.
Cement trucks and trailers carrying goods for the Dangote Group have been mentioned in several of the crashes. Nigerians online are furious, asking why one of the biggest companies in Africa cannot keep its trucks and drivers under control.
One angry post read: “Dangote is making billions while his trucks are killing Nigerians.”
Behind every headline is a story of tragedy. A mother of three crushed by a speeding truck. Workers killed on their way home. Entire communities now living in fear whenever they see a trailer coming down the road.
Nigerians want answers and action. Activists and community leaders are calling on the government to:
• Check trucks before they go on the road.
• Punish reckless drivers.
• Hold powerful companies accountable.
For now, the fear remains. Every time a big truck passes by, Nigerians are left wondering: “Who will be the next victim?”
