General Pierre de Villiers, the former Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, has finally said what many soldiers whisper behind closed doors: “We all fought side by side thinking we were fighting for freedom. But in the end, I realized it was all about the elites—taking the land, the oil, the diamonds, and controlling the minds of the people. May God forgive all we’ve done.”

De Villiers, a respected military leader, stepped down in 2017 after clashing with President Macron over defense budgets and decisions that, in his view, compromised the integrity of France’s military.
