Looks like President Trump isn’t backing down just yet. A federal appeals court ruled late Thursday that he can keep the National Guard deployed in Los Angeles at least for now.
The decision came from a three judge panel on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which temporarily blocked a lower court’s ruling that said Trump’s move to federalize the Guard was illegal and should’ve been handed back to California Governor Gavin Newsom.

In a 38-page decision, the judges made it clear: this isn’t a final ruling, just a pause. But for now, they say Trump likely had the authority to send in the troops.
“We’re not saying everything he did is off-limits for review,” the panel noted. “But we have to give some deference to the President when it comes to national security decisions.”
While the case continues, one thing is clear Trump’s control over the National Guard in L.A. is still in play, and the fight between federal and state power isn’t over yet.
