For thousands of immigrants, the rules just changed and not in their favor. this morning, the U.S. Supreme Court gave the green light for immigration officials to send migrants to third countries without full court hearings, a controversial Trump era policy that’s been on pause for months.
The vote came down to 5 4, with the conservative majority ruling that national security and executive authority take precedence in these cases.
Immigrant rights groups called the decision a devastating blow to due process. Others, especially conservatives, praised it as a step toward border stability.
This isn’t about politics it’s about people, said Maria Torres, a human rights lawyer. “These are families being sent to places they don’t know, sometimes without even speaking the language.”
The ruling comes at a time when migration from Central and South America is rising again and the 2024 campaign is heating up with immigration front and center once more.
