The city of Los Angeles witnessed scenes of chaos and confrontation this weekend after widespread anti-ICE protests erupted in response to a series of immigration raids across Southern California.
Demonstrators, many waving signs reading “No Human is Illegal” and “Abolish ICE,” gathered in major neighborhoods including Echo Park, Westlake, and Boyle Heights. Tensions escalated Friday night when federal agents reportedly used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds. Dozens of arrests have been made.
In response, President Trump authorized the deployment of the National Guard, citing threats to public safety and destruction of federal property.

“This is not about protest it’s about anarchists trying to dismantle America,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “We will restore order.”
Human rights organizations and immigration advocates condemned the raids and the military-style response. Some compared the scene to the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, raising concerns about the government’s escalating use of force in civilian affairs.
