Bride Asks Local Mayor to Walk Her Down the Aisle After Dad Was Deported Days Before Wedding

Her dream wedding turned into heartbreak when ICE detained and deported her father, Juan Esteban, just five days before walking her down the aisle.

Instead of canceling, Sofia Esteban, invited Mayor Linda Hayes a known immigration advocate to escort her in her father’s place, the moment was emotional.

I didn’t do this as a political act, Sofia said. I did it because my father deserved to be there. And I wanted someone who cared about families like mine to stand in for him.
