President Donald Trump issued a dire warning on Monday, claiming that the Biden administration’s latest immigration policy will have “catastrophic” consequences for the United States if it is not immediately reversed.
Speaking at a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump attacked the new policy which aims to fast-track work permits and legal status reviews for undocumented immigrants with clean records and U.S.-born children as “a total betrayal of American sovereignty.”
“This is a disaster,” Trump told the crowd. “Joe Biden is turning our borders into a joke, and the results will be catastrophic. Crime will rise, jobs will vanish, and our country will pay the price for decades.”

The former president, who has made immigration a cornerstone of his political platform, accused the Biden administration of encouraging illegal entry and warned that terrorist threats could increase under the relaxed vetting standards.
While the White House has defended the policy as a humanitarian and economic measure to clear backlogs and provide stability to families already living and working in the U.S., critics like Trump argue that it sends the wrong message to potential border crossers and undermines national security.
In a statement released shortly after Trump’s speech, White House officials rejected the “fearmongering” and said the policy is targeted at reducing strain on the asylum system, not opening the border.
“The policy prioritizes safety, family unity, and economic growth, all while preserving rigorous screening standards,” said DHS spokesperson Lila Torres.

Despite the sharp partisan divide, immigration experts say the policy could impact millions and change the tone of the immigration debate ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Trump, eyeing another run at the White House in 2028, appears ready to make it a central theme of his renewed campaign.
Analysts say the “catastrophic” language used by Trump is part of a broader strategy to mobilize his base and keep immigration at the forefront of political discourse.
More reactions and developments are expected in the coming days as the policy rolls out across several key states.
