Kamala Harris Blasts Elon Musk for Saying Empathy Is Weakness

 

Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has strongly criticized tech billionaire Elon Musk after he claimed that empathy is a weakness, calling his comment “dangerous” and “regressive” during a major global event in Australia.

Speaking at the 2025 Australian Real Estate Conference (AREC) in Sydney, Harris used her keynote speech to respond directly to Musk’s recent comments made on X Spaces. The room fell silent as she took a firm tone and addressed the controversial statement.

“Elon Musk says empathy is a weakness,” Harris said. “I say it’s our greatest strength.”

Musk’s original statement came during a tech talk where he said empathy “slows down decision-making and clouds judgment.” His defenders claim the quote was misunderstood, saying he meant that emotions can interfere with logic in AI leadership not that humans shouldn’t be empathetic.

Still, Harris’s remarks sparked widespread applause and quickly spread across media and social platforms. Experts and public figures are now weighing in, reigniting debates about ethics in artificial intelligence and the role of emotional intelligence in modern leadership.
